1. PETITIONER.
Anyone who has suffered domestic violence or fears that domestic violence is eminent can petition for relief.
2. EX PARTE TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER.
A court order entered without the alleged perpetrator being present in court which prohibits domestic violence and usually removing someone from the home.
3. COURT HEARING BEFORE THE JUDGE.
Testimony is taken and a final decision is made.
4. PERMANENT INJUNCTION.
Permanently prohibits domestic violence, telephoning the other party, permanently removing them from the home and ordering them to stay away from the other person at home or at their place of employment are example of permanent relief.
5. VIOLATION OF INJUNCTION.
One can be incarcerated for violation of an injunction.
